Sophia nodded. "Yeah. I always was."

Haemon tossed a £20 note to Mildread.

"Buy whatever you want from Floss." He smiled.

Mildread pretended to swoon, "What a gentleman."

Kitty giggled awkwardly.

"Haemon's always like that. He's nice to everyone. Even to Agatha, who treated him like something she'd scrape off a shoe." Sanguis explained.

Sophia started walking again.

Mildread raised an eyebrow but said nothing to the vampires, turning to Floss. Without hesitating, she said, "I'll give you twenty quid for a bottle of your blood."

Kitty glanced over at Jared, hoping he wasn't murdered like Sophia.

"OK, my dear. Seeing as you know these two, I'll give you 2 for £20." Floss smiled, looking at Haemon and Sanguis. She rooted round in the back and produced two large bottles of blood.

Mildread looked the blood over, "You sure this is yours? Are you even a genuine witch?"

Jared followed behind quickly.

"Yeah. If you look closely," Floss smiled, "Here's the fresh cuts. I can fill up 3 bottles a day if I try hard enough. And I AM a genuine witch. How else would I get all this stuff?" She continued, showing her arm to Mildread.

Kitty bit the bullet, "Jared, uh, your d-death..?"

Mildread grinned, taking the two bottles and giving Floss the money, "You ever been to the surface, witch-girl?"

"I fell," Jared frowned.

"Never felt like it." Floss shrugged. Sanguis pressed three fingers of her left hand to Floss' head.

"It's a gesture of respect. Only female vampires do it though. It's odd." Haemon sighed.

Mildread said drily, "Now we're finished with the Vulcan salute shit, why don't we take her up top?"

Kitty winced, "Oh. S-sorry..."

"Sure." Haemon burst into a fit of giggles.

"You're the first person to make him laugh in years. He's a grouch, even when he's drunk. Thank goodness vampires sober up quickly." Sanguis smiled at Mildread.

Mildread raised an eyebrow, "Wow, you guys are a weird couple."

"I'm his SISTER." Sanguis muttered.

Mildread tried to look cool and calm but failed, her eyes so wide she thought they might fall out.

"No bother, let's just forget about it all. Floss, wanna come back to house 19 and have some wine?" Haemon asked.

"Sure." Floss smiled. She grabbed all of her stuff, shoved it into her bag and wiped her hands.

Mildread slipped the bottles into her bottomless pockets and started to walk out of the catacombs, trying to regain her nonchalance.

Jared shrugged. "It could have been worse."

Haemon and Sanguis reached house 19 quickly, Floss arriving just after on her broomstick.

"Agana, unlock the door!" Sanguis called.


"OK." Agana smiled. She unlocked the door, and went back into the kitchen to wash the curry stains out of her apron.

"You made chicken curry?" Haemon asked, his nose twitching.

"Yeah. Looks like me serving up 5. You, me, Sanguis, Mildread and...Floss. If that's her name." Agana smiled.

Mildread wrinkled her nose- vampires were weird.

Kitty nodded, "T-true."

"Are we almost to the caves?" he asked, canging the subject.
